Super Rugby - Jaguares vs Lions on 2 February 2020

February 2, 2020 - The match was played in Buenos Aires on Sunday 2 February 2020, and kicked off at 01:00am SA Time.

The Jaguares took an early lead in the match when they mauled close to the Lions try-line, the ball went loose and replacement Flyhalf, Domingo Miotti, gathered the ball and ran in the try. Miotti also kicked the conversion, to put his side in a 7-0 lead after 10 minutes.

At the 20 minute mark in the match, the Lions were awarded a penalty in a kickable position, and Jantjies kicked it to make it 7-3.

Just three minutes later the Jaguares were on the attack, and a ruck formed on the Lions 22, where Marnus Schoeman brilliantly stole the ball and got the ball to Len Massyn, who found himself in space and he carried the ball into the Jaguares half, passed to Andre Warner in support, and he managed to score, despite the attention of two defenders. Jantjies missed the conversion, but the Lions were in the lead 8-7.

The Jaguares then almost replied with another try, but they were denied by a forward pass. They were awarded a penalty though, and kicked it to go 10-8 up.

Close to half time the Lions were on the attack, and the move just started to look promising when the ball was spilt and the momentum halted. The Lions were awarded a penalty on half time, they went for the line-out and unfortunately then lost the line-out and the score at the break remained 10-8 for the home team.

After the break the Lions were on the attack again, and they set up a maul on the Jaguares 10 meter line, where Marcos Kremer illegally tackled Jannie du Plessis without the ball, and he received a yellow card. The Lions decided to kick for a line-out again, and this time Elton Jantjies kicked the ball dead, which gave the Jaguares a scrum from where he kicked. From this scrum the Jaguares scored their second try, when Moroni scored after receiving the ball from Miotti.

Shortly thereafter Moroni scored his second when he beat Coutnall Skosan on the inside with a step. The try came from a lost line-out of the Lions. The Jaguaes were now in a comfortable 24-8 lead.

The Jaguares then scored their 4th try when they passed a ball back to the runner on the inside, and the Lions forwards who needed to defend there were caught napping.

The Jaguares then sealed the match with a good maul try by replacement Hooker Gus Creevy, to make the final score 38-8.
